Hello again all friends of Mountmellick Embroidery and Heritage Museum both at home and abroad.
We hope this finds you well and you continue to stay safe and Covid-19 free.
While this virus has disrupted all of our lives, we are learning to adapt and live with it much better, and by applying the now well-documented actions i.e. maintaining social distancing, hand washing and applying approved sanitizers, along with the use of face masks, we are protecting each other and our families.
While we have completed nearly four weeks of this level 5 lock-down, the reduction in the number of cases and fatalities is a testament to the efforts of us all.
While it has been said that the arrival of this pandemic has made the world a kinder place, which is most welcome, we do however look forward to the arrival of the promised vaccine in the new year, to enable normal service to resume.
Unfortunately, but in the interest of public safety, our Museum, like most public buildings remains closed and we had such great plans and tours booked for 2020 which were not to be.
We have not however during this downtime been resting on our laurels, as our very active museum committee has used this time to plan, secure funding, and carry out renovations that will greatly improve the visitor experience, under our Museum Conservation Project 2020. We were delighted and very appreciative to secure funding from the Heritage Council, under The Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2020.
This funding is to install museum standard lighting, a display cabinet and conservator supervision. We are happy to report that this project will be fully completed this week. We will upload photographs and give a full report over the coming weeks.
We would also like to remind all embroidery enthusiasts that you can continue to order material, thread, books etc.by sending an email on museum Facebook/website.
As an added bonus thanks to the Design Craft Council of Ireland postage scheme, we can dispatch any order up to 20kg (materials/books etc) nationwide at a very special rate of six euro postage.
We will be in touch again soon,
For now, stay safe, keep well and mind each other.
